At Hillcrest Healthcare, we understand that connection, interaction and engagement improve well-being, so we offer activities to engage residents and patients. National Skilled Nursing Care Week provided five days of fun!
National Skilled Nursing Care Week recognizes the essential role of skilled nursing care centers and is a great time to recognize residents, patients, staff, family members and care partners who make up our three Knoxville communities.
Our festivities kicked off Monday, May 10, with theme days to match this year’s “Together Through the Seasons” theme. Our amazing activity directors led the charge for designing days that reflect a season and an activity that happens in that season.
Monday was “Together Again” which included a family reunion cookout at Island Home.
At West Hills, Monday represented spring and Derby Day. Everyone enjoyed mint juleps and a contest for best decorated Derby hat with a Derby race in the courtyard.
Tuesday represented winter and a snow day complete with a visit from a snow cone truck and a snowball fight in the courtyard with our staff and residents.
At Beverly Park, Wednesday brought summer and a backyard barbecue with a cookout and hillbilly-themed, dress-up day with games including cornhole and hillbilly golf.
Thursday celebrated fall and dunkin’ day. We had a dunkin’ booth outside, a basketball dunkin’ contest and, of course, treats from Dunkin’ Donuts, including donuts and iced coffee.
On Friday, we revisited summer with a Hawaiian luau, serving ham sandwich sliders and pineapple and pina cooladas and enjoying a Hawaiian shirt contest.
“What’s a pina coolada,” you ask? It’s fruity summer goodness. We scored the recipe so you can enjoy one of your own this summer:
Pina Coolada
1 cup frozen pineapple
3/4 cup coconut milk
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1 tablespoon honey (optional)
Blend all ingredients in blender until smooth, pour into glass and enjoy!
National Skilled Care Nursing Week brought so many smiles and much-needed time together. Our mantra at Hillcrest Healthcare is “everyone matters,” and it was great to celebrate our patients, partners, family members and associates.
