The East Tennessee Respiratory Center was developed to meet the needs of individuals facing a life-limiting illness.
The East Tennessee Respiratory Center at Hillcrest North offers the only unit of its kind in Tennessee. Our team of nurses, respiratory therapists, and rehabilitation specialists work together to assess the potential of each patient to wean from the ventilator, regain vital functions and be cared for at home.
The East Tennessee Respiratory Center offers board-certified pulmonologists and state-of-the-art respiratory care with 24-hour, on-site respiratory therapy services in addition to inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. Our goal is to provide our community with supportive care, education and rehabilitative services for the ventilator-dependent patient and their family.
Admission Criteria
Appropriate candidates are medically stable, are stable on a ventilator, and have treatment plans in place to address all medical conditions. Services on this unit may be covered by private health insurance, Medicare, or paid privately by families.

| The following information will be needed to facilitate an approved transfer to the inpatient program: |

Completed Discharge Summary sent with the patient or faxed prior to transfer. |

History and physical |
| • |
Last five days progress notes, vent sheets/respiratory notes and therapy notes. |

Lab results (including CBC, BMP, Phosph, Mg, Liver Profile, PT, PTT, sputum gram stain C&S, and ABG). |

Chest X-ray, done within the last 48 hours. |
| • |
Copies of echocardiogram, CAT scan, sleep study, and PET if done during present admission. |
The East Tennessee Hospice Center was developed to meet the needs of individuals facing life-limiting illness. Physicians, nurses, clergy, social workers, rehabilitation and respiratory therapists, and nursing assistants work together to develop and coordinate a plan of care and respect the dignity and wishes of the patient. Our goal is to ease the passage from life with comfort and compassion and provide support to family and loved ones.
The East Tennessee Hospice Center is designed to accommodate individuals and families in their greatest time of need. The quiet unit features private suites, a homelike setting, and amenities such as recliners, cable television, telephone, and private bathrooms. The suites are cozy, yet spacious enough for multiple visitors. A private family room is available.
Our hospice is an extension of our not-for-profit services and a service to those in the community.
Admission Criteria
The East Tennessee Hospice Center patients generally come from home-based hospice or are qualified by a home-based hospice when they are admitted.
| Medicare may cover hospice care if: |

You are eligible for Medicare Part A; and |
| • |
Your doctor and the hospice medical director certify that you are terminally ill and probably have less than six months to live; and |
| • |
You sign a statement choosing hospice care instead of routine Medicare covered benefits for your terminal illness; and |
| • |
You get care from a Medicare-approved hospice program. |
